Welcome to my worlds!

I'm James Maxey, author of fantasy and science fiction. My novels include the science fantasy Bitterwood Saga (4 books) the Dragon Apocalypse Saga (4 books), numerous superhero novels including Nobody Gets the Girl and the Lawless series, the steampunk Oz sequel Bad Wizard, and my short story collections, There is No Wheel and Jagged Gate. This website is focused exclusively on writing. At my second blog, Jawbone of an Ass, I ramble through any random topic that springs to mind, occasionally touching on religion and politics and other subjects polite people are sensible enough not to discuss in public. Bitterwood back in stock! And a review I particularly liked...

Around Thanksgiving, I noticed that Amazon was showing Bitterwood temporarily out of stock. This changed to simply "out of stock" for all of December. When I did a signing at Barnes and Noble, I was told they had none in their warehouse. Fortunately, Solaris did order another printing, and just today Amazon has changed the status back to "in stock." So, if you've been waiting to pick up a copy, wait no longer!

I've got mixed feelings about selling out the print run. Bitterwood was already in a second printing, so I assume they've just ordered a third. I look forward to getting my hands on one of the new copies to verify this. I'm happy that the book sold out... I suspect that means the book did better than anticipated when Dragonforge came out. Outperforming your publisher's expectations is never a bad thing. On the flip side, being sold out in the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas is pretty much the worst possible timing imaginable. Ah well. There's always next year. Maybe people will have money again by then.

In other news, a review of Bitterwood and Dragonforge appeared today at a blog called Eveing Dearest. It's part of a list of things that Eveing likes, sandwiched between a book about Donuts and a musing on the scientific rational of a good kiss. Very entertaining.

Be sure to let us know if you plan on doing any more book signing for the upcoming novel. I'd love to get my tattered copies autographed.

Masami,

I'm actually planning an update this weekend to discuss upcoming events. My next public appearance will be at Shevacon in Roanoke, VA the weekend of February 27, followed closely by Stellarcon in High Point, NC just a few weeks later.

Things have been quiet on this blog lately, but I've been gathering news about Dragonseed, the third Bitterwood novel, and will be updating by next Monday with a preview of the cover and possibly a sample chapter. Stay tuned!
